Rating : - Practically Perfect After doing a lot of research for a new printer, it took some doing for me to part with HP. I originally was looking to get an HP 6000 but after reading the mixed reviews, and knowing how HP's customer service has gone downhill in recent years, I decided that maybe it was time for a change.
There were 3 things I wanted from my new printer....2 sided printing, separate ink cartridges and wireless capability. And I wanted an all-in-one machine. Thats when I came across the Artisan line. I looked at the 810 first but decided that I didnt need a fax and I didnt want a machine that was top loading...space was also an issue. Then I saw the 710 and it looked like just what I needed. And the reviews were more positive. So I decided to take a chance.
I have to say, even though its only been 2 weeks, I LOVE this printer! The setup for all 3 of our computers was easy enough...install the sofware and the computers linked right up. And I can now print from my laptop, which is really convenient. And the 2 sided printing is awesome! I am saving SO much paper and space. I havent noticed my ink draining like some have mentioned and I have been doing an above average amount of printing since I got it, because my old printer ran out of ink and I had some catching up to do. So I have no complaint with the ink so far. I am aware of having to replace an empty cartridge before I can print, but that is a minor complaint. Plus, having a media card reader is very convenient...both my digital camera and my HD camcorder use media cards. Being able to charge up my Ipod from the printer is a nice feature, as well.
The only thing I wish the printer had is a touch screen. Scrolling through menus with arrow buttons can be frustrating until you get to know where all the options are. But, again, thats a minor annoyance....basic document printing is very easy.
Print quality is excellent. The only recommendation I would make is that if you do a lot of 2 sided printing, get a heavier weight paper. The ink doesnt bleed through, but you can see it somewhat. Still, its just such a joy to have 2 sided printing that I dont mind using thicker paper.
Yes, the paper tray is a bit on the flimsy side, but if you treat it kindly, you shouldnt have a problem....I havent. And the overall size and shape of the printer is really nice.....sleek and compact.
I plan on upgrading my Vista laptop to Windows 7. I am hoping I wont have a problem, although I understand that drivers have to be downloaded from the Epson site for Win 7. However, as things are now, I have had no problems with the printer and certainly do recommend it.
